The Magical Unicorns paper collection is such a magical one and has such gorgeous images of the  most adorable ponies, beautiful unicorns , castles and whimsical clouds and rainbows! To make this style of card you actually need just a single 6 x 6 inch sheet of paper to make the  2 components of the  card but if you use 2 papers you can mix and match the  elements!

I used the  Floral Guitar die from Dress My Craft. I love musical themed elements as they are so versatile...perfect to add to scrapbooks, card and literally anything handmade !

The Floral Guitar die set consists of 2 dies...a lovely background die and a delicate die you can layer on top or use as it is.

You can ink or cut the  background die from a solid color paper to create beautiful layered guitars!

I literally went to town with the  die cutting on this one.

I had injured my hand some weeks back but my latest purchase from Crafters Corner...the  Gemini was invaluable in die cutting all the  beautiful guitars for these cards.

Trio of Floral Cards

Today, I have a Trio of Floral Cards to share with you.
I wanted to create 3 different cards with the same stamp set, "Adore You" by Altenew. This stamp set is one of my favorites and definitely a must have for your cardmaking and other crafting projects. I used similar supplies & color scheme for the 3 cards to show that we can get a different look by making slight alterations. I've used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers for watercoloring. They are currently on sale at Crafters Corner, so, it is a great time to grab them! All the supplies from the store are linked at the end of this post for your convenience :)

Let's get started.

Card 1: Happy

Photo Tutorial:

1. Stamped the flowers and leaves from Altenew's Adore You Stamp Set onto Watercolor Paper with Versafine Onyx Black ink 

 2. Watercolored the images with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers & Koi Water Brushes.

Tip: Keep a few tissues nearby to dab off excess color/water 

3. Did ink smooshing on Dress My Craft Floral Oriental White Cardstock by scribbling blue markers onto a piece of acetate, spraying it with water and then smooshing the colors onto the paper. Did this a few times to get an organic look of ink splatter. 

Tip: Dry the colors before adding more layers of color on top

 

4. Fussy cut the images with the Cutter Bee Scissors

Tip: Darken the edges of the cut images with a black marker for a finished look 

5. Die cut the ink smooshed cardstock with the largest out of the Gina Marie Designs Rounded Stitched Rectangle Die set and also die cut the word happy a few times in black using Altenew's Happy die. Then stuck the die cuts together (to form a dimensional sentiment) using Ranger's Multi Medium Matte. 

6. Assembled the card by creating a floral cluster with the fussy cut images. Before adhering it to the stitched panel added some black thread under it for texture and interest. Then adhered the cluster with a few foam mounted elements and some adhered with glue. Then adhered the dimensional sentiment & foam mounted the panel onto the A2 sized card base. Finally, embellished the card with a few Nuvo Drops.

Card 2: Thank You (Clean & Simple Style- CAS)

Process:

1. Added a striped washi tape to the right side of the beige colored card (A2 size).

2. Created a floral cluster & adhered some of the elements with foam tape & the rest with glue

3. Stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black Ink

4. Embellished the card with a few Nuvo Drops

Card 3: Have a Beautiful Day

Process:

1. Created watercolored stripes with zig markers and a water brush on a rounded stitched rectangle die cut. Also created a little splatter with black ink to add interest to the background. 

2. Stamped the sentiment in black from Altenew's Floral Frames Stamp Set

3. Created a floral cluster with the water colored & fussy cut images. Then adhered the floral cluster to the panel.

4. Foam mounted the panel onto an A2 sized white card base.

5. Finally, embellished the card with blue sequins

Glitters and Micro Pearls

Hi friends...Dr Sonia here on Crafters Corner blog after nearly a year!!!
Life threw me a few curves last year and I had to take a break from DT work now things have settled  down and so thrilled to be rejoining back with Shalini in the capacity of Blog Educator which gives me a lot of freedom which was not possible in the role of DT.
I am a bit rusty so please bear with me while I ease into things and share a fairly simple post.
I am not going to bore you with my usual long essays in this post as the gorgeous products I am showcasing are super simple to use and they literally do shine on their own!!

I am sure you will agree that Pop Up Cards are very special cards not only because of the fun element but because they are flat folding and easy to mail. The only problem with pop up card designs is to add that extra bit of jazzing without adding bulky embellishments and flowers!

I had actually made the basic framework of this whimsical pop up box card even before Shalini sent me her gorgeous DMC products.Even though the card had a lot of beautiful elements, it looked really dull and because I wanted to keep it flat for mailing I was struggling with how to embellish it.

The beautiful newly launched glitter array and special micro and micro mini pearls from DMC helped transform the Pop Up Card creating areas of interest and beauty without making it bulky!

I used glossy accents  on the mushroom which by the way is a beautiful Marianne die I got on "Preorder" from Crafters Corner. Like many of you I too am extremely apprehensive about directly ordering from overseas .....what with the unreliability of the postal services and the unpredictability of the customs duties which can be levied! It was so easy to preorder...all it entailed was emailing  Crafters Corner!!

You can actually use any kind of glue but I find that using a really tacky and fast grabbing glue like glossy accents and Aleene's tacky glue made sticking glitters and pearls really fast and less messier. In this instance, the floppy cattail reeds I applied the glossy accents to made them stiffer and nicely rigid holding their shape better.
 Just look at the beautiful look of the rainbow glitter chunks.....when I read the label rainbow I was actually afraid to experiment with it... but oooh they are now my favorite type of glitter creating such a unique dazzle!!

Wherever you want a subtle shimmer, opt for micro sparkling dust or microfine glitter . And if you want a bit more pizzaz opt for the sparkling dust.

In the photo above you can see how dull parts of the card originally looked before adding glitters .It may be okay for a muted card but  it's not the look you would want for a happy looking birthday card! The "birthday" was outline with  rainbow glitter and oooh it dazzles so prettily even from across the room!

The little mushrooms and the cute mice and hedgehog [from Penny Black]all have subtle micro sparkling dust and micro fine glitter on them!

And that is how the sparkling Pop Up Card looks  beside the bonsai orange tree in my garden!

8 Simple Mixed Media Cards & A Photo Tutorial- Guest Design Post By Preeti Datta

Hope you are having a fine day. I am thrilled to be on the Crafter’s Corner Blog as a Guest Designer today. It is such a huge honor, so a big thank you to Shalini, Entrepreneur Extraordinaire & the wonderful owner of Crafter’s Corner. 

For today’s post, I will be sharing 8 Simple Mixed Media Cards and a photo tutorial for one of the cards. I’ve used Dress My Craft Stencils, Glitters, sequins & papers here. 

Dress My Craft (DMC) stencils are beautifully designed and would work brilliantly in all kinds of crafting especially for making Mixed Media Backgrounds. They are A4 in size & premium quality. Since they are thick, one can use them easily with various art mediums, pastes, sprays, inks etc and wash off the residue to ensure longevity. Because of their big size, one can use them on 12 by 12 layouts, on fabrics, walls etc... to get a seamless design. 

The 3 DMC glitters are beautifully packed in a wide mouth jar, so, it is easy to use one’s fingers to sprinkle them. They come in 3 varieties of fineness, with the DMC Microfine Glitter powder having the smallest white, shiny, powdery particles, DMC's Rainbow Glitter Chunks being multi colored and biggest in size & DMC's Rainbow Glitter is multi-colored, sparkly and has medium sized particles. I tried using various glues to stick down the glitters and all of these worked well-Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue, Dovecraft’s Acrylic Craft Glue, Ranger’s Multi Medium Matte & Glossy Accents. 

My favorite technique of adding loose glitter to these cards was to heat emboss an image and then sprinkle on some glitter on top of the heat embossed image and heat it with a heat tool so it got set within the melted embossing powder underneath. This way the glitter does not fall or rub off and it gives a great sparkly & shiny look to any project. 

For today’s cards, I’ve used the stencils with different mediums. 

All the cards are 5 by 7 inches in size and easy to create. I also wanted to minimize 3-D elements so that these cards could be easily put into available envelopes and mailed. 

So let’s get started.

Card 1: New Beginning

For this motivational card, I applied white gesso in the background on top of kraft cardstock (using a palette knife to get a rough, grungy look) and then sponged on black acrylic paint through the DMC- Alphas Stencil. The sentiment was stamped, matted and foam mounted on the card. All the edges were distressed with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Card 2: Thanks

For this Thanks card, I created the background panel with the gelliprinting technique using inks, paints and the DMC-Thumb Print Stencil. Then splattered on some watered down white gesso and matted it with a pretty text design paper from the DMC-Hydrangea Lawns Collection. To finish, added the die cut sentiments and the butterfly which is stamped from the Mudra Butterfly Layers Stamp and heat embossed on vellum.

Card 3: Hello 

For this hello card, followed a similar procedure as Card 2 by using the DMC-Alphas stencil to create the background. For this card, I also wanted some sparkle, so I put a layer of glossy accents on top of the die cuts and then sprinkled on some DMC-Microfine Glitter Powder on top. This added a wonderful & subtle sparkle which is hard to capture in photos.

Card 4: You are Enough

For this motivational card, I created the green background by using the Monoprinting with stencils Technique, in which I sprayed Lindy’s sprays onto the DMC Thumb Print stencil and then sprayed some water. Then used the stencil to stamp onto the panel. For layering, I then sprayed a darker brown color through the same stencil onto the dried background. Finished it off by stamping an apt sentiment, darkening the edges of the panel, matting & foam mounting the panel. Using this technique, one gets the positive and negative impression from the stencil.

Card 5: Happy Birthday

This motivational card was made alongside card 4 so the same techniques and stencils were used. Spraying ink on one panel and then flipping the stencil over to stamp with it onto the second panel. This way we can create 2 cards and reduce wastage of inks/sprays. For this card, I did some background stamping as well and then added the die cut sentiment.

Card 6: Cheers

For this celebration card, I created the background by sponging on white acrylic paint through the DMC-Thumb Print stencil and then Black Archival Ink through the DMC-Couture Fashion Stencil. The sentiment is a die cut and to add sparkle to it, I used some multi medium matte and then sprinkled on the DMC-Rainbow Glitter Chunks. In real life, it looks very shiny & sparkly.

Card 7: Hi

For this hi card, to create the background, I sponged on white acrylic paint through the DMC- Swirls Stencil and then with a soft touch created a sponged on white border. The sentiment is a die cut to which I added DMC-Rainbow Glitter using Dovecraft’s Ultimate Acrylic Craft Glue. 

Card 8: Sparkle

Photo Tutorial for Card 8 :

1. Created the card background by sponging on Peacock Feathers Distress Ink and Broken China Distress Oxide Ink through the DMC- Swirls Stencil using Ranger’s Mini Ink blending tool, Mini Ink Blending Foams and sponge daubers.

2. To add text to the background, sponged on Black Soot Distress Ink through the DMC- Couture Fashion Stencil

3. Then I did heat embossing through the DMC- Couture Fashion Stencil by first preparing the surface with an anti-static powder tool and then dabbing on versamark sticky ink through the dress form shape in the stencil & heat embossed it with Ranger’s super fine black embossing powder. 

4. To add shine to the dress form shape, as soon as the heat embossing was done, I sprinkled on some DMC-Microfine glitter powder onto the dress and heated it again with the Dovecraft Embossing Heat Tool, this enabled the glitter to bind to the melted embossing powder underneath and I had my glittery dress ready with no mess!

5. I heat embossed the die cut word “sparkle” as well and added shine to it (adding DMC’s Microfine Glitter Powder) in the same way by heat setting it. 

6. Then I did background stamping with Jet Black Archival Ink to create interest and adhered the sentiment with Tombow’s Mono Multi Liquid Glue 

7. In the end, I darkened the edges of the panel with Black Soot Distress Ink, matted it in black and foam mounted it onto a white card base. Then added DMC’s beautiful sequins- (Golden Black, White Sunshine & Crystal Clear) with glossy accents to finish the card.
