"BELIEVE"- A Mixed Media canvas with a tutorial.

This is Jaya here today. Hope you all are doing great!
Today I have a canvas tutorial for you all. It on the brighter side and really full of life. Long back I had made something like this and had many questions on how I made the background for it. So I thought in this guest post for Crafters Corner why don't I re- create  the background and add something more to it to give you all a better idea.

I titled this canvas as "Believe". It is something which is such an integral part of my life.

'Believe' that you can and you are halfway there.

Trust yourself, trust what you are doing and don't be afraid to explore and experiment.

Lets get on to the tutorial :)

STEP BY STEP PHOTO TUTORIAL

Step 1-

Prime your canvas with Prima heavy white gesso and Palette knife.

 Step 2 -

Use Faber- Castell Gelatos and colour the canvas as you desire. 

I used the really gorgeous lime green and light blue ones to colour mine

Step 3-

Using you favourite stencils apply some colour/spray as you desire

. I used the Heidi Swapp Lattice stencil and Faber castell gelato in Pink for this step. 

 Step 4-

Apply some white gesso though another stencil using sponge. I wasn't looking for any dimension here so used the sponge.

 I used the newly released Prima Stencil - Poppies and Prima Heavy white gesso.

 Step 5-

Now stamp randomly using  Jet black Archival ink and your favourite stamps. 

Here I used the Prima Finnabair Vintage Vanity collection Doily stamp and Prima Fairy Belle cling stamp.

 Step 6-

Alter your chipboard pieces-

I heat embossed  this piece with the Rangers heat tool and Lindy's stamp gang embossing powder 

Here I used the same colours and blended them well to give a darker green tone.

Step 7-

Now start with arranging the layers onto your canvas, I used some random leftovers from previous projects for this.Arrange all your embellishments as you desire. I haven't photographed this as it is a process of adding and removing and there is actually no hard and fast rule to this.
It is best to use the Prima soft gels to adhere your embellishments to your canvases. You may also use Aleene's tacky glue for this purpose.

Step 8-

Once the arrangement is done run the black gelato stick all around the canvas edge and rub and buff the pigment a little.

Step 9-

Finish off with some Prima mica flakes- Granite, beads, rhinestones, Tim holtz rub- ons and black and white splatters.

Mixed media canvas with an easy background technique

Jaya here with you all and today I have a new mixed media canvas to share .

I also have a pictorial tutorial for this so sit back and enjoy!

This canvas is all about NATURE

I am always inspired by all the greenery all around me.  Inspiration from nature is one of the most evident part of all my creations. I love to include greens in most of my creations. With this canvas i wanted to use just these two colours- GREEN and BROWN. I love how this came out. Really earthy and beautiful!

PHOTO TUTORIAL 

Step 1-

Adhere some Thickers onto your canvas and then give a generous coat of  Prima White heavy gesso all over it. 

At Crafters Corner you can find a wide range of thickers from American Crafts. 

These would be just amazing for this technique. These are self adhesive thickers but I advise you to use the Prima soft gloss gel to adhere them to the canvas at we will be using liquid media.

Step 2-

Spray the Lindys stamp gang Rusty lantern lime starburst spray  and Luscious lime flat fabio  in the desired quantity. I gave it just 2 coats at this stage.

Step 3-

Spray the Lindys stamp gang Cocoa Bean Copper starburst spray only near the Thickers.

 Switch better shades of browns for more depth.

After this dry the canvas perfectly. 

Step 4-

Keep on adding the greens. Its even better if you have a few shades of greens . 

You can use the Little Lindys Greens for this. This will add depth to you creation.

Step 5-

Start embellishing. Using papers, flowers, buds and  pollens. 

Adhere the embellishments using the Prima soft gloss gel

Step 6-

Add some more interest to this arrangement with cheese cloth,laces etc to give that rustic nature feel. Do not be very precise and clean in the arrangement as it will take away from the nature kind of look we are aiming. 

Step 7-

Add some Prima art ingredient Mica flakes- Henna and Diamond dust

Finish off with white gesso and black gesso splatters.

Easy Mixed media cards with a tutorial

Jaya here with you all today.

I have some easy mixed media cards to share with you all. 

Its pretty easy to execute these and so I thought its worth a share since mixed media can be so overwhelming at times!

Not too much embellishing and really fun to make. 

Have a look!

Step 1-

Take the desired stencil and spray through it on your cardstock in any two colours. Gently lift the stencil

Step 2-

 Now reverse the stencil and press on another cardstock for the negative impression of the stencil

Step 3-

You will end up with two patterns like so. 

Add the contrasting layer to the back of these cardstocks.

Step 4-

 On any one of the prepared background spray gently in the centre and spread the mist.

Step 5- 

Heat dry both cardstocks. Take the second stencil you want to use and apply modelling paste or Prima heavy white gesso through it. Prima gesso has heavy consistency and you may use it if careful enough.

Step 6-

 Heat dry again using the rangers heat it tool. Now use double sided  foam tape on the back side and adhere these to your card blanks,

Step 7-

 Embellish these cards as you desire . Also add the sentiment to it.

Step 8- 

Splatter with gesso and mist. 

You are done!

Elegant home décor with Collage Clay

Jaya here wit you all.

You all  must have tried the new Collage clay launched by Crafters Corner recently.

I too had the opportunity to try it and I came up with some creations.
Hope you will enjoy these. They aren't super cute like what I saw everywhere but this is just my style of interpreting the product.

Well here is what I came up with..

CUPCAKE EMBELLISHMENTS

HOW?

Technique- Flat nozzle technique

I tried making some cupcakes with the collage clay and I have to say they turned out so gorgeous!

• I tried this with the same nozzle that comes with it.
• Just piped some clay in the cupcake wrapping .
• While it was still wet I sprinkled some fine glitter white sequins and some caviar beads in light blue on top.
• You might even insert some flag /toppers on this for more fun :)

CANVAS/GIFT WRAP

HOW?

Technique- stencilling

• First I painted the box with white gesso and heat dried it.
• Next I took out my Prima Bubble stencil and Collage clay and stencilled through it. 
•  I sprinkled the shimmer in both Gold and teal colours and once all the are was covered I removed the stencil very carefully.
• I heat embossed my 2Crafty 'Love you' Chipboard in Rangers gold embossing powder and adhered it to the canvas with tacky glue
• I ran some gold washi tape on the edges of the canvas as well. 

MONOGRAM

HOW?

Technique- Round Tip technique

• I decided to go with the trellis pattern which is one of my favourites. So for this I used the round tip that I got in the Collage clay pack itself.
• Very carefully I piped the clay in slant lines keeping the distance between each almost equal. I tried using a ruler for this initially but it didn't work out as the clay kept sticking to the ruler itself. so avoid this and go with instinct!
• I also outlined the entire monogram to give it a clean finish
• Next I embellished this using the gorgeous mulberry flowers in the shop in white. I used some Prima flowers and paper twine to go with it. A few pearls and I was done!

ALTERED WINE GLASSES AS DECORATION PIECES

HOW?

Technique- Finger technique 

• Take a blob of the clay on the index finger and just run it from the middle of the stem of the glass to the middle of the bowl .
• Do this all around.
• Sprinkle your favourite fine shimmer and make sure it covers all areas. Repeat with shimmer if required.
• Just fill these with your favourite candies or whatever and these are good to go decoration pieces!

CHRISTMAS DECORATION

HOW?

Technique- Star tip technique

• I first made out cone of paper and adhered the ends with tacky tape.
• I used the star tip technique and piped the clay on the cone working bottom upwards and in small strokes
• Ones the whole area was covered in rested it on a flat surface standing upright and sprinkled the shimmer in silver gold and teal to give a lil 'christmassy' feel. I guess I went a little too far ..Lol!
• Once you are sure that the clay is relatively dry only then go ahead and attach the base/trunk.
• If you want to do it before hand /alongside you have to be careful as to pipe the clay in halves on the cones. Working in front half first and drying it and later working on the backside. This is so as the clay will give weight to the cone and it will tumble down because of the small and unsupportive area of the base.

Prima Art Basics contd. - It al about the Gels!

 SO today I am going to talk about the gels. There are 2 gels in the Finnabair Art Ingredient line . The soft gels and the 3D gels. 

Lets talk about them in detail.

Soft gels

Two types-

-The soft gels are transparent and flexible acrylic mediums that fry clear and permanent.these are really easy to spread because of their thin consistency.
-These are perfect for using in photo transfer techniques, as an adhesive( dry clear and hold strong) or as a varnish
-Non toxic ,archival safe

What Soft gels can be used for?

-Soft gels are perfect to be used as liquid glue to glue down your embellishments,papers,glitter  etc. You can also use it as a varnish or as a sealer to seal your paints or other mediums.

-It is a good resist medium and gives beautiful resist effects with paints and sprays.

-The soft gels are perfect for image transfer techniques.

-You can create your own mediums with these gels. Just add the pigment powder and you are ready to go with your customized paints. It can also be used to increase the bulk of your paints.

Difference between Soft gloss gel and soft matt gel

The difference between Soft gloss gel and Soft matt gel is basically in the finish of the end product. While the soft gloss gel dries with a gloss finish the soft matt gel has a matt finish to it when it dries. Rest of the properties are just the same and it totally depends on your choice.

Tips when working with soft gels

Always use paint brush,sponges or stencil brush when using the gels. Since they are very light consistency avoid using palette knifes to minimise mess.

Do remember to seal off you image with soft gel after the image transfer is complete. 

Gels are good to be used as varnish or sealer for any project with crack;e mediums.It will prevent chip off's and keep the crackles in place.

Gels resist non permanent medium. Use this to give beautiful resist look to your projects.

Wash your equipments after use using water, soap or wet wipes.

3D Gels

Two types-

Semi- transparent, flexible acrylic medium.Dries with gloss finish

-These are semi transparent and heavy body acrylic mediums.

-Permanent and resistant to water based mediums when dry.

-Non toxic archival safe.

What 3D gels can be used for?

-The 3d gels add great amount of texture as well as dimension to your projects.They withhold the shape when dry which adds to the dimension of the creation.

-It can ones again be used as an adhesive and holds embellishments and other 3D objects well.

-They also act as resist and can be used in a similar way as the soft gels.They are resistant to non permanent colour mediums after drying completely.

-You have options of creating custom made paste. Try these not just with pigment powder and paints but also with glitter, flakes and beads!

Tips when working with 3D gels

Try making your own custom pastes. Use pigments,paints,acrylic colours mixed with some perfect pearls powders, flakes,glitter or beads. Make your pastes and store them in air tight containers for later use. The possibilities are many!

Use palette knife to apply the paste for great dimension. Avoid palette knife when using it to glue down dimensional embellishments.Use your finger instead to control the amount of application.

Always clean your brushes and stencils after use with water or wet wipes.

                  Difference between Soft gels and 3D gels

While the gloss gels labels are marked in blue( Pale blue- soft, Bright blue- 3D) the matt gels are purple/mauve in colour(  pale - light, dark- 3D).

When used as an adhesive while the soft gels are good for sicking papers and light embellishments the 3D gels can be used for heavier and 3D embellishments.

The soft gels are thin in consistency and cannot hold form therefore good as varnishes and sealer while the 3D gels are good for dimensions and textures.

Application of soft gels is with paint brushes,stencil bushes or sponges while of 3D gels is good with palette knife.
