FAUX palette wood play with Plaid.

Hellloo...
It's the last THURSDAY of this month and I have seen you 5 times this month! I thought I will end this month with a video tutorial on how to paint FAUX PALETTE WOOD with chalk paints on any smooth surface.

The technique that I show can be done on mdf or art journals or even card stock. All you need is some gesso and a few chalk paints(colors of your choice).

Do watch the video, give the technique a try and get back to me if you have any queries.

The faux palette is one of my fav techniques and I have done a lot of projects using it. I have some pictures at the end of the video which should give you a lot of project ideas too.

Here is what I made today with a piece of mdf board, chalk paints and some old keys!

I will see you next week with another Plaid play.
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling.
Cheers

OUTDOOR play with PLAID!

Good morning!

Welcome to another Thursday and a fresh new plaid play!
Today its outdoor play ...yes...something for the outdoors! I have altered some plain metal planters using Home decor Chalk paints, Plaid stencils and sealed it with the OUTDOOR  MATTE SEALER from Plaid!

Isn't that easy peasy...

Lets move on to the process...I need to apologize at the outset for the lack pf pics on the wip, as my phone crashed and is under service! I have no access to the pics taken in it.
I shall explain to the best of my capability, I hope you understand. Do let me know if you have any queries.
I have worked with 4 planters at a stretch and will explain one by one.

PLANTER 1- I have mixed chalk paints  River walk and Vintage mustard and used a spouncer to dab the colors using honeycomb stencil from the stash.

You can see the smooth coverage of the paints on metal surface.

The bee and fly have been stenciled using black multi surface paints. I have then sealed this with 3 coats of outdoor sealer , allowing drying time between coats.

PLANTER 2- The bright greens is a mix of multi surface paint and chalk paint and I have used the same honey comb stencil. The cute little birds on the branches is the plaid stencil (birds)and have used black for this too. Sealed with outdoor sealer, 3 coats.

PLANTER 3- I arrived at this lovely peach color by mixing Imperial and vintage mustard! I applied the paint and when it was still wet, just dabbed it with a rag cloth to give some texture. When this was dry, I have stenciled with black using plaid HUMMING BIRD stencil! Isn't it lovely??? Again sealed with the outdoor sealer, 3 coats.

PLANTER 4- The lovely blue hues is using chalk paints (nautical and river walk) and stenciled with black and another stencil from my stash.

What gave me the confidence to do this outdoor planter is the OUTDOOR MATTE SEALER and I am sure this last many moons and suns!
Properties of the sealer-
It is water based.
It is non yellowing.
It dries fast.
No odor.
Can be used outdoor/indoor.

Here is a look at them in my garden!

I urge you to try and experiment with chalk paints for your outdoor needs and also use the sealer. This way you can now start decorating your outdoors!

These planters add so much life to the plants now and its like the birds are enjoying their new home!

I will see you next week with another Plaid play.
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling,
Cheers,
Rupa

Log play with PLAID

Good Morning....
Rupa here with  another Plaid play for this Thursday.
I have a great fascination for anything wood and always wanted a little wooden crate as home decor.
So I decided to play with a packaging box and some paints to create a "Faux Crate"...yes if you cant get one then make a faux one, lol!
Sit back and enjoy a lengthy tutorial and do give this technique a try, its messy but the way a lifeless paper comes to life with these paints is just magical!

Lets start...
These are paints I have used for this project.

The packaging box is given a coat of multi surface paints, pure black and bark brown.

I dry brush some Chalk paint (Imperial) on to card stock.

The card stock is then cut into strips.

Next comes a layer a teal. I dry brushed some sea side villa.

I mixed some paints to get a grey color that I wanted.

Using a sponge, I distressed the edges of the strips with grey paint .

Some black and white color splats and my first batch of wood strips are ready!

Next I take a piece of white chipboard and dry brush all the chalk paints in layers.

This is also distressed with brown paint around the edges and I have cut them to size required for this project. You can see the color splats too...these make the wood so real!

I then used mod podge and decoupaged a floral pattern onto a piece of chipboard.

This too was distressed with paint and given color splats!

Now it was time to assemble all the wood pieces and go onto make the crate!

I started sticking all the strips on to the already colored packaging box.
Here is the how it got transformed!

Finally my dream wooden crate was ready! I am going to show you all the sided to this beauty...I really couldn't resist taking pictures here!

That's how it looks sitting on my desk!

Here is the top view and a closer look at the panels.

The front with the floral panel.

The side view. The chipboard gives an illusion of a wooden piece...what say???

 Another aerial shot!

The box opens up to reveal my vising cards! Yes, I retained the original opening of the box and dry brushed the inside too, so that I now use the box.

One last look at my "faux wooden crate" visiting card holder.

Thank you so much for your patience and I look forward to hearing your comments on this project.
I hope you do experiment and play with your Chalk paints on all surfaces.
This project is to mainly emphasize that Chalk paints can be used on chipboard and card stock too, to give some amazing wood like finishes!

I will see you next week with another Plaid play.
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling.
Cheers,
Rupa
