Experimenting with foil

Hi Friends,

This is an extra post this month from me. But I got to play with some super trendy products. That is the privilege of being on Crafters Corner team. You get chance to try out new things and share your experience. You all must be aware of new foil trend now a days. There is a special machine for foil transfer known as Minc by Heidi Swapp  . This works with laser printer. Laser printer ink use toner and it's electromagnetic property helps the metal foil to bind with paper in presence of heat and pressure of minc machine.

Well, I don't have minc but that doesn't mean I have to compromise with my love for foil. I just love that   gilded look of foil & the pizzazz it adds to project. I received following products from Shalini . 1) Ranger sticky embossing powder 2) Bright tone sheets by ranger 3) Deco foil by icraft 4) deco foil adhesive by icraft. Foil is a thin metal layer fused with thin clear acetate. So whenever it comes in contact with strong adhesive, it gets transferred to it.

First, I tried Sticky Embossing powder by Ranger. Check this video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWS4HZXetiQ)  from CHA 2015. Basically, it is embossing powder which turns sticky upon heating. You stamp with versamark, emboss with sticky powder & apply foil immediately. If it cools down foil won't stick to it. Plus the powder is very coarse which leaves uneven coating on image.  You have very narrow time frame to work. See what I tried...

transferring foil in above pic.

First try....didn't work

Second try... little better

Umm... i tried several times but just didn't like the look. It is not consistent and you have to work really fast. Also the coverage is not even. Apart from this I tried several other times but had no luck. Sticky powder is not strong enough to hold the foil well. ((this is my opinion... there must be something I am missing. If you figure out please let me know)

I tried sticky powder with glitter and that worked really well.

Don't you just love this. I couldn't capture those glitter dots but it looks awesome in person. I just stamp small circles with versamark, emboss it with sticky powder and pour glitter over it. Burnish well with your finger, tap off excess glitter and you are ready to go. This powder works well with flocking powder too. I will show you in a while how i did that gold solid butterfly.

Now, I will come to the things which worked and my...my... I fell in love with it.  I Used iCraft glue which is very strong adhesive with gold- iCraft foil.

I applied glue with a piece of foam at the bottom of tag. Now, one thing you have to keep in mind is that this glue require some curing time. When you apply, it is quite fluid. Allow it to dry till it is not shiny any more. it will turn tacky as it dries. Drying time varies with the amount of glue and weather. It is quite hot here so it took around 10 minutes.

Now stick a piece of foil, shiny side facing up and burnish it with bone folder or finger

. It doesn't need much pressure. Just cover all the area so foil will come in contact with glue and stick to it. Now remove the plastic. The foil attached to it will transfer on tag covered with glue.

Isn't that gorgeous? Ya...ya... when i peeled that foil off the tag...i was so mesmerized ....<3

I went ahead and stamp some leaves with Altnew Henna stamp & added little bit of coloring with copic. I used archival ink for stamping as i was stamping on metal foil. You have to see it to believe . Photographs do not show the actual beauty as glitters and foils are the hardest to capture.

Second card is very simple - technically but oozing with glamour.

I just swoosh few colours of distress paint daubers (by ranger) from top towards bottom of the card. Let it dry. Apply iCraft adhesive in the same manner with foam. Let it dry till it loses its shine. Put a piece of foil on it and burnish and peel off for the magic. You can go over with foil if you feel you left some area.

For next cards, I used the same glue to stamp my image.

I made background with various Heroarts Ink Daubers and stamped images with the same. I used

Dab the foil glue on stamp with sponge and stamp on the background. Clean the stamp immediately with water and tooth brush. Apply foil on the stamped part once it is enough dry. Sentiment is also from IO. Stamp it on vellum and emboss it with black powder. Add butterflies and bling. Ya, that shiny ribbon in the back of panel is red sticky tape gilded with foil.

this is how i did that butterfly i used for glitter card.

Cut the regular label paper (which we use to print label from computer. Sticky on one side.)
with a die keeping sticky side up. Remove the backing and cover it with foil.

The Last one.

Stamp the image with glue and apply foil. I wish you can see it in person.

A close up:

And even before you think...i am telling you... it is way different than gold embossing powder. Its look it totally glamorous.  As per the instruction you can use it on fabric too.

And this video will give you idea on how to work with glue and foil.

This is not very neat but just wanted to share with you. I have applied same glue with foam through stencil and used multiple colours of ranger foils.

Hope I inspired you to try these amazing products and find out new ways of using it. Keep crafting... see you soon.

Yes, I wrote it with same glue and foiled it...:)

Enjoy the Party!

Hello Everyone!

"Each day holds a surprise.
But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us.
Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy
It will open a new place in our hearts,
a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully... "
Henri Nouwen

Smile Please!
In order to document one such moment ,
lets create
"Enjoy the Party layout !"

The Kraft textured paper from Co-ordinations is awesome. I love the texture.
The Happy and bright Paper Pops from Darice are amazing to play around with.
Hence before beginning I lay them all out.

I choose few of them as per the shapes and the sentiments as well as the elements on them
and fussy cut the camera as well as the hearts.

After having choosen the Paper Pops  it was time to create the embellishments.
Hence I narrowed down the pops choosing which one goes on the top
and which one remains at the bottom.
Using the 3D foam tape I stuck the pops one on top of the other
Viola the poppers are ready.
The Red Tacky Tape is a very useful tape when it comes to pasting without bubbles.
Hence I use it all the time.

and once again I couldn't  help myself but maka a banner.
After having the pops ready it was time to add the banner.
(without the banner there is no fun in the celebration)
I choose few of the co-ordinating Paper Pops and sliced them into halves.

After having sliced them, using the 3D foam tape tape
I stuck them on top of the other.

Embellished it with the buttons and twine
(pasted them using the super Tacky glue)
Viola  the banner is all ready to go on the layout.
Using the super tacky Red Tacky Tape
I pasted the banner onto the layout.

Last but not the least...its time to add the sentiment.
The amazing Vellum sentiments by Darice is a must.
I picked these 2 sentiments based on the theme.
But..

"Enjoy the Party!" called for my attentions.
I trimmed the sentiment using Martha Stewart Scissors
and pasted it on a white card stock.
Viola! its all ready

AHA! after having all the elements ready using the super tacky Red Tacky Tape
I assembled all the embellishments on the Kraft sheet and added the photo mat.

Banner garland

Hi friends ,
This project is very close to my heart as I made it for my daughters room. Both of us love pink and we always wanna be surrounded with this gorgeous colour .
I created a banner for her pin up board where she organises her school schedule and her other activities.

Step 1:
I started by cutting 5 thick Kraft coloured triangles and 5 different pion patterned paper triangles( which were a little smaller than the Kraft triangles) I love the pion papers because they r so pretty and girly.

Step 2:
I used clear bead gel and the beautiful tim holtz lace stencil to add some texutre on the triangles.

Step 3:
Next I stamped few Altenew vintage flowers and vintage roses with the help of my misti tool. Fussy cut them by hand.
I used the stampin up inks for these vibrant pretty blooms.I have a tiny video tute to introduce you to "Misti"

video  link :
https://youtu.be/Z1cW4villWQ

Step 4:
I wanted to use the super cute Julie Nutting wooden dolls for this project as my daughter loves them. I wanted to trim away the loop and it was easy with tonic scissors.

Step 5:
I used one of my spellbinders labels die to cut 5 pieces which i have placed at the base of my arrangement. There are lots of cute tags and elements in the pion stack and I trimmed and distressed them too.

Step 6:
I punched some pink paper with the STAMPIN up border punch & added at the top. I sticked a pearl string and a white lace trim to add interest.

Step 7:
Final arrangement of the banner . I layered few pion elements and tags over each other. Then I placed the roses and leaves. I sticked the doll and a cute mini metal charm. To add a little bling I used the mariane crystals here and there.
Finally i stringed all the five triangles through some seem binding and a cute banner was created .
Here are some close up shots :

My daughter absolutely loved it and will place it the way she wants.
I hope u too liked this post.

Lots of love

Mimi Stamps - Penny Black

Hello Crafty Friends,
Neha here...once again I am playing  with pennyblack clear stamps. This is my last post in Pennyblack series. Of course, I will be playing  with these fabulous products (new release is soon coming to the store.... :P ) but for next month, I want to focus on my another favorite brand.
Stay tuned... (any guesses??) Please leave a comment on this post with your guess (by 27th) and I will select one random winner who will receive one of the card from next post.

Last couple of weeks, it's been extremely hot here in Ahmedabad ( It hit 47c) . I just hate summers. You don't feel like doing anything. On top of that I had bad back ach... after a course of injections and medicine I am feeling better but not there yet. So this time there aren't as many cards as I used to share. The stamp set ( Big wish )  is also such that you can't try many techniques. These Mimis  are so so cute and really good if you enjoy coloring. It is easy for fussy cutting too.

Card : 1

For the first card, I used Wendi Vecchi Gold Embossing paste   and SSS stencil on a white card base.

 -  Keep it aside to dry. Cut a white cs with Spellbinder Label 17

- Stamp one of the image from the set in Memento Black ink. Colour it with your favourite colouring medium. Here I have used copics. The frosting of cake is heat embossed with frosted crystal  embossing  powder and clear perfect pen. I hope you can see...it looks yummy in person.

- Cut a few strips of pattern papers and adhere them on left side of card base.

- Emboss sentiment in gold on velum, punch it out with circle punch, back it with lavender paper and adhere with help of a button.

- Pop the colored panel on some foam tape.

Card : 2

-Stamp the bottom of white cs with Sprigs    stamp & clear emboss it.  Add a wash of green distress inks. Use red/orange marker  for the centre of flowers.

-As you can see, the balloon is attached to the girl. But I cut the stamp  and  separated balloon. Now, stamp the Mimi on a piece of  white card, color and fussy cut. Lay it on card base and mark the spot behind her palm which is holding the string.

- Stamp the cut balloon multiple times using mask. Color all of them and  hand draw strings so that they will meet at the marked spot. Pop the Mimi on foam tape in such a way that her palm will align on the marked spot and it will look like she is holding all the balloons.

-Stamp the sentiment and you are done.

Card : 3

All the images in the set are birthday themed but I decided to use them for a card other than birthday.  For that I had to get rid of those party hats. I used sticky part of post it notes to make masks.

- Mask the party hats of Mimi as well as cat , ink the stamp, remove the mask and stamp. I have used Memento black( for Mimi) and brown( for cat) inks. Now hand draw the top of her head (masked area). Colour them.

- Add green for ground and some stamped grass. On the top right corner I added some details form the Sprig set. Add sentiment to finish it off.

Card : 4

It is a  shaker card. The process is simple. Sharing a pictorial for the same.

- Cut the window with a rectangular die from a pale green cs. I made extra frames too from white cs.

- Use the red double stick tape to adhere the piece of acetate on the back of green window.

- stick one white frame on acetate with red tape for extra support.

-Mark the position of window on the white card base. Add some stamped gift boxes & confetti. Cut two banners form pattern paper and glue them. (I cut the confetti from one of the images in the set.)

- Now comes the most tedious part. Load the base with foam tape. Using one single strip is advisable but I just had 1/2 inch wide tape. so I cut it into pieces and stick them carefully so there is no gap in between to trap your shaker elements.

- Run the sides of tape facing inside the frame (before removing backing) with Ek Success powder tool so that shaker elements won't stick to it and move freely. You can use regular talcum powder with paint brush too.

- Remove the backing of foam tape, add shaker elements in the center and mount the green frame with acetate on it.

- Add colored and fussy cut Mimi & diecut sentiment to finish it.

Card : 5

-  For the last card, I have use several die cuts from Flower Frolic Die and adhere to the base to give faux embossed look.

- For the stamping I have used blush pink coloured cs. Stamp the Mimis and colour with water coloured pencils. Add sentiment coloured die cut and few black stripes to finish it off.

That is all for now.

Hope you will enjoy the cards & give it a try. Copic is good but not necessary for coloring. Try distress inks or markers with these cute girls. (for face and skin you can use combination of scattered straw and tea dye....it works for me)
