How to make a Fairyland

Fairyland
Dear friends, Dr Sonia here to present to you the finale in my flower punch board tutorial series – a Fairy land diorama. Can you spot the elements made with the flower punch board ? If you had read my earlier posts [ Easy flower tutorial and Easy basket tutorial ] I bet you could !
The fairy house roofs, the fairy dresses and the fence enclosing the fairies fantasy world were all made using the flower punchboard!
Built the fairyland on an old cardboard box [ a bit of recycling!] lined with pattern paper stamped with flourishes and embossed with clear sparkle embossing powder and sponged with green ink in patches.[ Its amazing how stamping and embossing can help you to make your own pattern papers to match any project!]

Made some fairy furniture using Spellbinders dies and added bits of Cheery Lynn  die cut grass all over the fairy homeland!

The cute little teapots are from the latest charm collection at Crafters corner!
How to make fairy dresses
These dresses are super easy to make and you can make dresses for tiny dolls and even big Barbie dolls using this tutorial ! You can see my little girl using the flower punchboard to make the fairy dresses!
We made dresses for these little dolls by punching out a 6 x 1 3/4 inch paper strip as you would for an XXS flower [ See Flower punch board tutorial  for detailed steps ]

Accordion fold the punched paper strip and wrap around your doll like a skirt!

If you wish add glue in the pleats to get a snug fit and finally glue the floral skirt like you did while making the flowers as shown in the Flower punch board flower tutorial .

We embossed blue butterflies in parchment paper and added them as wings to our fairies!
Fairy House 3

This purple fairy has embossed and water-colored fairy wings. I made an arched doorway to fairyland using Spellbinders label dies and hung crystals on it. Added a tiny flower pot with magical handmade beaded flowers and silver glitter foam leaves!
How to make fairy Houses
Fairyland 3
DIY Fairy house
These fairy houses are super easy to make and by varying the paper strip size you can easily make houses in different sizes
Make the roofs first : Take a 9 x 2 1/4 inch paper strip [ measurements for a XS flower] . Punch and score verticals and diagonals aligning at the XS mark on the flower punch board. Fold and stick into a conical shape just like in the fairy dress tutorial  to get the fairy house roof. If you want you can add glue on the pleats or let it be for a tiled roof appearance. Add a crystal , bead or flower to close the small gap left at the center of the roof.

Fairy home
Make the walls:Make a cylinder using cardstock or corrugated paper [super easy as curves are easier to make] and stick under your roof using glue. If you want emboss the paper with wood-grain or tiles  before you stick to the roof. You could also cut out windows and doors
Tip :  A glue gun is easier and quicker to stick the wall and roof!
I added the houses atop circular discs placed on cylindrical pedestals and prettied up with handmade foam daisies and rosestutorial link  :Foam rose tutorial ]
Hanging sign
Made a sign board using the Tim Holtz Hanging sign die and added a cute bird nest charm and lots of mulberry flowers. My daughter wanted me to write something on the sign board but I couldn't really think of an apt caption!

More ideas to jazz up your fairy houses
  • Add lots of glitter
  • Add crystals and pearls
  • Add charms
  • Cut out windows and doors and add a tea light inside to light up your fairy house
Easy fence tutorial
Fairyland

Fences are one of my favourite elements to use in creating dioramas and scenic cards. You could use a fence punch or a fence die if you have one like the Marianne fence  I used around the pink butterfly fairy house or the Memory box fence I used around the purple house.

Foam flowers
But regular fence punches and dies come in one size only --with the flower punch board you can make any size fence customized for your project! [Have I told you I love this product!!LOL too many times I guess]

Fence tutorial
I punched a paper strip aligning at XS to make the fence for my fairyland. You can emboss it in woodgrain texture and ink the fence and use the paper strip as such

Fence tutorial
Or you can cut out individual picket fences like I did!
Here is the fence with grass and foam flowers with stamped and Heartfelt creations die cut leaves and in the background you can see a cute mini metal harp  [ another charm] which I set on a flower table for the little fairies to play!

The pink, purple and yellow daisy style flowers are all foam flowers made using the Cheery Lynn  Sunflower die [ tutorial link : Daisy tutorial ]
Fairyland
This post was actually supposed to go live this morning but I had sprained my neck on a flight last week and crafting had to be kept on hold.I could delegate all my ENT surgeries but who could I assign my crafty commitments to ? !!! This project was actually hurriedly put together in just a few hours with lots of help from my little girl!
I hope you enjoyed browsing through fairyland....input needed!
