Liquid Leaf play with PLAID

Good morning...
It's the last Thursday of this month and I am also in the last leg of my summer vacation!
I have my project share and tutorial today with a PLAID stencils, Chalk paints and Liquid leaf (silver) .


I have up cycled an empty packaging here and tired to play with chalk paints and the silver paint to give a brushed metal look.



Here is the step by step...

First sand the box using PLAID sanding block. This helps in removing the glossy fiish of the box and makes it ready for the next step.


 I have used the PLAID stencil (Alibaba) and texture paste to create a border design on the base and all around the box. This stencil in particular has some wonderful border design

  

To get an even pattern all around, I have used the stencil adhesive. This is so quick to sue and ensures that your stencil does not move! A must have for those who work with stencils...just apply, wait for a minute for it to be tacky and then place the stencil on the surface. It sticks well and then can be easily removed.



Here is my other project using the same.

I also did some dry embossing on white card stock and have stuck it on the top of the along with dry wall tape  to give some texture and dimension.


Next, I have covered the entire box with a nice thick coat of Home decor Chalk paint( nautical) .



 It is a lovely blue, I am sure you will agree.



At this point you cannot see much of the texture. The paint dries very quickly.

Next I took some plastic bottle caps and covered it with the silver Liquid leaf. This is a solvent based paint and very rich pigmentation. It adheres beautifully to any surface like glass, metal, wood, plastic and paper too! And most importantly, dries fast too!
 

Next I take a flat brush and load the bristles with silver paint and do dry brushing all over the box.



This way all the raised and textured areas get highlighted and the end result is here!

I love how the box has a brushed metal look and the subtle silver highlights on the blue makes it a lovely combination. Dont the bottle cap legs look beautiful???



I added s hand made paper tassel to the font and now it is ready for its second lease of life!

You can see how the textures are visible and the modge melt button on the top looks like a gem!



I hope you give this Liquid leaf a try and not to forget the Stencil adhesive which can help keep your stencil in place while working!

We crafters are always on the look out for amazing products and when we get them, it seems as if a treasure is in our hands !! Oh !!! how we love our craft supplies!!!!!

DISTRESS OXIDE INK !!!!!!
THAT'S THE NEW ONE!!!!

Distress oxide inks , another popular product by Tim Holtz Rangers was introduced in CHA 2017 and it became quite a news and soon became a sought after item by everyone.
Crafters Corner as always has endeavoured to bring the best to India... so now has all 12---yes there are 12 of them !!!! for us to India along with the Reinkers.

Vintage photo, walnut stain,  broken china,  fossilized amber,  peeled paint, iced spruce, fired brick, wilted violet,  faded jeans, worn lipstick , spiced marmalade, cracked pistachio

These are the colours available .

Now the first question that comes to the mind !

Are these similar to Distress inks. Or, What are Distress Oxide inks ????

So let us see!!!!

Distress oxide inks have a composition of both due and pigment ink making it more opague and chalk like unlike the distress inks .

They are reactive with water .

They give an oxidised look when reacting with water.

So let us see some techniques using the Distress Oxide Inks.

These are good for distressing..giving a smooth non-patchy look. But does not have the transparent hue as in distress inks. However flawless blending can be achieved when distressing with oxide inks.

We can create beautiful backgrounds with Distress oxide inks.

Distress oxide inks are good for stamping give crisp images

                         Note the difference between Distress inks and oxide inks in stamping

Gives a beautiful look to die cuts, spreading evenly

Can get wonderful results with stencils

                                             Distress oxide inks are very good for painting

          General stamping can be achieved beautifully on distressed oxide ink background

             Look at the beautiful effect of oxidised spritzed background-when water is spritzed

                                       Distress oxide inks are wonderful for heat embossing

So what else do you need when one ink pad gives so many advantages.

Mothers Day with PLAID..part2!

Hellooo...
It's THURSDAY and back with my PLAID play!
I am still not done with Mothers Day and have another project share for the same!
What did you all gift your mom? I know each day we remember our mother and these gifts are just an expression of our love...and today I have another experiment with MODPODGE...IMAGE TRANSFER!

You may know modpodge as a sealer and glue but dis you know you can also do image transfer using it in just a few simple steps...its no rocket science.

Sliding Recipe Card Holder with Memorydex

Hi friends,Dr Sonia here with a simple project which is not only practical and useful but elegant and cute in its own way!

I used the Memorydex system to make a Recipe Card holder. Though it's the times of pinterest and cooking apps I am still old school when it comes to cooking ...I need to see a recipe on paper while I cook ! 

And I am sure all of you will have at least a couple of cook books and mamma's favorite recipes and of course those tried and tested family favorites!!

My favorite recipes are scattered in various books and when I want to make one particular item I have to go hunt for the book it is in.....so when I got my hands on the memorydex system I was thrilled that this would be a cool, hassle free ,not to mention pretty way to organize my favorite recipes and have them on hand in my kitchen!

 I used food themed DCWV papers to add a bit of color to my recipe holder and used Spellbinders dies and adhesive backed glitter foam to add the headings.

Since a recipe holder is a practical project which is going to be put to a lot of daily use..I let the paper take care of the  prettiness coefficient as I didnt want to add bulky embellishments!

The slider cards have 2 slots in the lower part and this makes them easy to insert into the slider tray and also to the Memorydex spinner.

Here are the options to make the slider cards:
Memorydex Oval Dividers dies : You can use these to make 2 types of cards...one shape can be a divider and have headings and the other one can be used to write the recipes .

Tab style die: This is cool  if your want to add labels to the tab part. I already have a Spellbinders Address Bood die with tabs and a MFT tab die so I use those to make tabs.

Memorydex punch: This is especially cool to use as you are then not dependent on a die cutting machine and can punch holes into any paper shape

I used the different styles of dies to act as separators between the recipes

I have to use glasses to read small print but not otherwise so I find it handy to have a recipe written in large font in my own handwriting rather than read from a book!!!

The trays are made of sturdy chipboard and have metal rods on which the cards slide. They are big enough to hold dozens and dozens of cards!
