MOD PODGE AND NAPKIN DECOUPAGE-A VIDEO TUTORIAL.

Today I,m going to show you another wonderful use of MOD PODGE. It works well with fabric and tissue napkins!!!
Napkin Decoupage is a very popular form of craft and very popular abroad. But now we at Crafters Corner will show you how to do Napkin Decoupage with Mod Podge and give a new look and life to your old items.
Here I,m using an ordinary plastic container and a very common cookie tin and changed its look with Napkin Decoupage.
I,ve also altered a plain shopping bag with fabric scrap.

Decoupaging Gift Box Using Mod Podge...:)

Hi Everyone,
Its Hussena here and Today I am sharing an upcycled gift box I have made using Mod Podge...All this month we DT's have been showing you the different ways of using Mod Podge and one of the common technique using Mod Podge is 'Decoupage' where in you apply Mod Podge on any surface and cover it with color paper and in My case pattern paper and then apply Mod Podge over it again to seal it.. I have up-cycled/.recycled an old gift box by covering it with white cardstock first then layered it with pattern paper with stamping on it and then embellished it using various dies..Here's a look at My box :-

And if you have noticed I have used the local Handmade paper to make my flower's and all the greenery is also cut from Handmade paper I really liked the subtle glitter this paper gives and  its so easy to cut through these paper's using dies ...They do get stuck with punches but with dies it cuts smooth as butter :) ..And all the small flowers are punched and colored with distress inks..Don't they look so pretty !!!

Introducing "The Crafter's workshop" stencils

Hello Everybody,

Today I want to share some information about a product that is one of my favourite things to use, and that is the Crafter’s Workshop Stencils.I would not be exaggerating if I say that I am in love with these.I have been collecting these for some time and I am so glad that these are now available locally and so easy to purchase.

The Crafter’s workshop is a company based in the US which specializes in templates and stencils.They are quite a rage with artjournalers, scrapbookers and mixed media lovers all around the world.These stencils come in two sizes i.e. 6 by 6 and 12 by 12 and are made of good quality plastic.They are easy to clean and maintain and incredibly versatile.There are a lot of different designs available and they keep coming up with newer templates very frequently.

Here are some ways that I have been using these awesome stencils.

1.To create backgrounds

There are multiple ways you can make backgrounds for your cards,tags,scrapbooking layouts etc,using these stencils.There are a lot of options and I am going to cover a few of them and also show you some samples that I created for this post and some projects that I have already done using these.(Please excuse the not so nice pictures.Almost everything is in low light.)

Here are some of the things that I have tried so far :

Use with Distress inks : You can use these stencils with distress inks and create cool backgrounds.You can combine multiple colours of inks with the same stencil too.Here's how I did it and the results

I used the Flutterby Stencil with worn lipstick distress ink and some White opal liquid pearls on the butterflies

For my next sample I tried two different inks ( Peacock Feathers and Worn Lipstick) with the Circle Grid stencil and also sprayed some gold spray through the stencil.

Spray away : Another popular technique is of course spraying.You can use shimmer sprays,flat colored sprays ,homemade sprays and make beautiful backgrounds for your cards,tags etc.I have to admit that I struggle with spraying.My images are more blotchy than crisp.You will see this in my sample.
Here's my attempt in my art journal .Not a very good result but that is more my clumsiness than anything else.:-)

Here are some tips that I gathered on getting a good sprayed image

 Tip 1 : Whenever you are using sprays,always make sure to use a repositionable/low tack glue or tape to attach the stencil to the paper.This ensures that the stencil does not move and also since the stencil is stuck down to the paper properly,there are less chances of the liquid seeping through the cutouts.

Tip 2 : Don't spray too close to the stencil.Keep some distance to get a finer spray.This will help in avoiding blotchiness and unclear images.Also note that if you are looking for very crisp images,especially you cardmakers,you may or may not like spraying.The effect that the sprays create is more artsy than crisp,so if you like that,go for it.

Heat Embossing : Yes,you heard me right!You can use these to do heat embossing too and then try the embossing resist technique.How you do it depends on the stencil you choose.For very intricate stencils,it might not be a great idea to go for heat embossing, but stencils with larger designs totally work for this.Some examples of stencils which will work great for heat embossing are Bricks Stencil , ,Mini Flower Frame, Mariposas, Circle Grid,to name a few.

Here I have used the Harlequin stencil with silver Zing Embossing powder and various shades of distress inks ( Broken China , Peacock Feathers and Faded Jeans ).Picture taken in lowlight.:-(

If you have a large stencil design,you can just use your embossing ink directly on the stencil.Make sure that your embossing inkpad is juicy and just squish it between the cutouts.You can then just emboss as usual with any embossing powders.

If you have more detailed/intricate stencils,you can make use of embossing pens like Versamarker Watermark Pen and fill in the areas that you want to emboss.

Note : You can use the same principle for using Perfect Pearls Pigment Powders  too.

Use with Modelling paste/Texture paste/Gesso : This is my favourite way of using the templates since I am fascinated with mixed media.You will need some kind of textured medium for this.Shalini will have liquitex modelling paste in her store very soon and I am very excited about that.

For this, all you need is the stencils,your modelling paste and a spatula.If you don't have that,a popsicle/ice cream stick,old credit card or even a hard brush should work.I haven't tried it with a brush, but have seen some people do it.So give it a try.

The trick is to take a moderate amount of paste on your spatula and then place it over the stencil and then spread it just like you would do when icing a cake.It will be a good idea to use some sort of respositionable adhesive to stick down the stencil Let the modelling paste airdry or use your heat tool.It doesn't take too long.

Tip : The modelling paste is generally white in colour,but that does not mean that you have to rely on that only.Modelling pastes are paint friendly,so if you want a specific colour,mix some paint with the modelling paste and then apply.

I have mixed black acryclic paint with the modelling paste here

You can also use distress inks over the modelling paste after it has dried.You can even stamp on it..

The stencilled design is coloured with Vintage Photo and then stamped with a script stamp in Colorbox Frost White Pigment ink

Here, I altered a frame by using the stencil and modelling paste and then coloured the whole thing with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink

I have used the Art is Stencil , Harlequin Template and the Flutterby Stencil respectively in these projects 

2.For dry embossing : Okay,a disclaimer here first.I have not personally tried this,so I am not sure how well this works.During my research on this product,I found that these stencils can be used for dry embossing using a Cuttlebug.I have a Bigshot Machine and I have yet to try and see if it works with it.Here's a video showing you how to dry emboss using these stencils.

3..Outline and colour to add random accents to your projects : Some people also use the stencils to just outline the design and then go back in and colour in the image.This might be tedious but I think can be useful if there's a specific design you want and you don't have a stamp of that particular design.

4.Resist with Mod Podge : This is a last minute thing I tried in my art journal.,you can sponge Mod Podge through the stencils.Once it dries,spray with the colours of your choice.Mod Podge will resist the sprays.This works best with gloss finish Mod Podge as per the internet,but I tried with Mod Podge Matt Finish and the results were not all bad.Ignore the bad spraying and uneven stencilling please.Focus on the resist.:-)The top portion has a thicker coat of mod podge and the bottom has a very thin layer.

4..Use with different kinds of paints: The most traditional method of using stencils is to use it with paints.Acrylic,water colour,poster paint,whatever you have.Remember,these stencils can be used to paint any surface,be it tags,boxes,canvases and if you have tons of patience and determination,even walls and wooden furniture.:-)

Phew,this post is really long,but I really could not help it,There are so many ways to use this product.One post is not nearly enough!

Whatever is mentioned in the post today is what I have learnt from various sources and have personally tried till now.I am sure there are many many more ways you can use these.There's no rule stopping you from combining multiple techniques with these templates.I think the possibilities are endless and you just need a tiny bit of creativity to make full use of this awesome product.

Use your Scraps with Mod podge ! - A tutorial

This is Mallika here .
Today I  am here to share  a  tutorial on how to use your scraps with mod podge .
My scrap shelf is filling day by day with loads bits of paper and I had no idea how to finish them off . Its heartbreaking to throw them away .
I decided to make a decor piggy bank with it using Mod Podge .
Now I will start with step by step instruction .
It is divided in two parts .


Part 1 - Making the base 

What  basic stuff you need ?

1. Mod podge - Matt / Glossy Finish  { I am using matt } 
2. Paint Brush 
3. Scraps of Paper 
4. Scissor 
5. Heat Gun { Ranger } 
6. Tweezer 

Step 1 - 

Chop your scraps randomly , it will look like confetti in huge size . 

Step 2 - 

Take  any base , It can be a box , plate , organizer any thing for that matter which you want to alter . 

I have taken a base of my mdf Piggy Bank . 

Step 3 - 

Start applying modpodge with help of your Paint brush on small portion of base . 

Step 4 -

After applying mod podge , start applying the bits of paper randomly with modpodge . Mod Podge acts as a wonderful sealant . 

Keep on applying randomly , making sure there is no mdf base peeping . 

Step 5  - 

For the base , I wanted to give a look of grass . I selected my green colored scarps and followed the same steps above . 

Please don't worry about the neatness , as once it dries the whole effect is beautiful . 

Step 6 - 

Take a big piece of paper and apply to the walls . Dont forget to modpodge it . 

Step 7 - 

Take your heat gun and make it dry . You can leave it for natural air dry too . I am one person with almost nil patience . 

Part 2 - Decorating the Base 

This part totally depends upon the supplies which you have . 

I will mention here the supplies which  have used to finish this wonderful piece . 

1. MS Doily Lace Punch 
2. Chateau Gate by Heart felt Creation 
3. Distress Inks -  Vintage Photo , walnut stain , Wild Honey , Frayed Burlap 
4. Laces from my stash 
5. Mulberry Flower

In this tutorial my main focus was to give you all an easy idea on how to use your scraps . The embellishing of the item totally depends on the way you want to do it . Sky is the Limit .

Aola Handmade Cards 

The 'showcase' of Mod podge continues!!!

Hello everyone!

Good morning! How are you all? Isn't the summer unbearable already? :-/ I feel like sitting in an air conditioned room all day and do nothing! :-D

Well, before I forget what I'm here for (Yes, I'm capable of that, I almost forgot that it's my turn to post today!! :)) let me share whatever I wanted to. :)

I have a pretty wall decoration and two cards to share. For those of you whose eyebrows are raised, let me tell you that I've a habit of making many cards in the process of making the one I planned to. :)

So here they are... (Since Mod Podge is the product of the month, all my three creations have mod podge on this)

The first one a 6x6 wall decoration. I couldn't hang it on to the wall and take a picture as the pictures taken indoors are coming out horribly.

 Zoom in the picture to have a look at how mod podge looks... used satin finish mod podge for this one.... I used mod podge matte to glue everything down onto an MDF chip board.

Applied mod podge to the flowers too...There is good collection of flowers available at Crafters Corner.

Supplies list-

For the wall decoration-

PP- Zephyr paper pad.

MS 3 in 1 butterfly punch

Mod podge Satin finish and Mod podge Matte

Tumbled glass and mustard seed distress inks

Cheery Lynn Lace corner deco dies

Flowers, label, doilies and glitter balls- Stash

The second one is a card...

Oh yes, I know it is pretty! :-p

Did you notice the black 'grainy' black band on the top of the card? What do think that is? It's Semolina (Suji) mod podged onto the card stock! :) I don't have pictures of how I did but it's simple...

Take a strip (whatever size you want...)of CS and apply mod podge on it. sprinkle Semolina on it. See that there are no gaps. Take some Mod podge in a bowl, mix acrylic color of your choice and apply on the layer of Semolina. Let it dry. 

By the way, isn't the bee stamp adorable? You want one? Get it HERE. :) I sooo love the tiny pink flowers. They are Kaiser crafts flowers.

Tutorial for a Mini-Clip-Board with Pocket using Mod Podge! :-)

Hussena here to share with you a very interesting tutorial for making a handy gift item /house-hold item using very limited supplies!.And Mod Podge of course :-)...Here's a look at the clipboard followed by the tutorial :-
                                                             

                                                               

  Isn't this so pretty!...And trust Me its very useful to have around your house too!..Put it near your telephone or hang it in your living room and it not only beautifies the space but will help you in storing all those important letters and notes which might other-wise get misplaced...And making this is soo easy and totally fun too! :-)

SUPPLIES required :-
Small Clip-Board (You can easily get this locally! )
Mod Podge Matte finish.
Martha Stewart Scoring Board.
Pattern Papers of your choice.
Crop-A-Dile.
Acrylic paints.
Self Adhesive decorative tapes.(Also available at Crafter's Corrner)

Now for the Tutorial :-
                                                           

Step 1. Take a clip-board and first detach the holder or the clip from the top  (This one is a bit tricky as the local Indian ones are very sturdy and will require quite a bit of manual strength to remove..But this is a necessary step so that you are able to adhere the pattern paper completely on the board! )

Step 2. (A) Cover the entire board evenly in the front with  Mod Podge  using a brush..Try not to leave gaps as this will cause the paper to bubble up...

B. Take a pattern paper of your choice and measure and cut it according to the size of your clip-board and using a small hole- punch..Punch out two circles on the top where your clip will attach so as not to tear your paper later on!

                                                       

C. - After punching out the holes place the pattern paper on the Mod Podged clip-board and smooth it out carefully....Keep pressing the paper down till you are satisfied that it has stuck evenly over the surface.And let the Modge Podge  dry completely ...give it 15 minutes maximum to dry

D. - Once the paper is stuck again Mod Podge over it and cover the entire paper thoroughly..This will act as a sealant and protect your paper from damage.Again I would advise you to give it a 10 -15 minutes to  let it dry completely

Then its time to attach the clip back on to the board ...I have used eyelets with the Crop-A-Dile to fix it back on the board....Using a Crop-A-Dile makes it much more easier to adhere the eyelets but if you Don't have a Crop-A-Dile any local eyelet setter would do!
                                                               

                                                       

                                                             

  For The Pocket :                                    
E. - To make the pocket of your clip-board measure the bottom half of your clip-board up to the level that you want to create the pocket...I made mine 6 1/4 inch by 4 1/2 inch...So first cut a cardstock using this measurement and then a pattern paper.
F. - To create the sides and the bottom of your pocket take 4 1/2 inch by 4 inch piece of cardstock and score it at 1 inch ,2 inch and 3 inch ( For the SIDES)
And for the bottom of your pocket take a 6 1/4 inch by 2 inch piece of cardstock and score it at 1 inch as shown in the picture ABOVE.
                                                       

G. and H. - Apply the glue on the rectangle piece of cardstock( 6 1/4 inch and 4 1/2 inch) that you have cut above and attach the two sides and the bottom piece as shown n the picture.
                                                 

J. K and L. - Once all the three sides are glued turn it over and adhere the pattern paper.
                                                           

M. and N. - Adhere your pocket on to the clip-bard and embellish it as desired...I have fussy-cut some flowers , leaves and  a scallop border from a pattern paper to decorate it.
