Faux wood background tutorial

Hello all!!
hope you all kick started your new year celebrations. This is the last post of the year in crafters corner. We all wish you a very HAPPY N PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.Have a crafty 2013 ahead:))

Its kavitha here to share a tutorial today on how to make a faux wood background for your cards.Of-course you get lots of embossing folders for wood backgrounds, but i am going to show you a easy method which can be done within few minutes with your scoreboard.
Keep you card stock on the martha stewart scoreboard and randomly score the lines using bone folder.Make small lines instead of scoring from top to bottom at a stretch.Keep moving the card while scoring so that you don't get even lines.

Hope you can see how the lines have come out in this picture. Then using vintage photo distress inks first distress the whole card stock.

Then make it darker from the outside,so that you get dark n light shades. If you want more darker add a little bit of black only on the edges. Now your wood background is ready to use in your card.

I have decorated the card with stamped and colored butterflies from hero arts. For the sentiment panel i used spellbinders floral oval and classic oval dies.Sentiment is from fiskars Make a wish stamp set. Some ribbon n button to finish the card.
Hope you liked my tutorial and card.

Hello Friends ,

I had a tough time deciding what tutorial to make and I actually changed three projects . I was suppose to post this yesterday but was stuck in some emergency so couldn't post .Apologies ..
Now onto my project

How to make a baby Carriage ??

Item You ll Need -
Cardstock -  I am using Nana's Kids from DCWV
Scoreboard - Martha stewart
Trimmer - Tonic Trimmer
Nesting Dies - Circle scallop
Big shot

Step 1: Cut the two pieces of cardstock, pink 4” x 5”, white 3 15/16” x 4 15/16” and one piece of 4 x1/4'' inches of cardstock

Step 2: Score both pieces of large cardstock at 1” on all sides

Step 3: Cut in at four places on both pieces of cardstock .

Step 4: Fold on score lines and adhere together.

Step 5: Insert lining into box to make sure it fits.

Step 6 : Cut either a round circle or oval for the carriage hood.  I used my largest Nestie Scallop Circle.  Cut 1/3 of it away.

Step 7: Using the larger piece of the circle, punch holes on
ends and attach it to the carriage with brads:

Step 8: Insert lining back into carriage box

Step 9: Put adhesive on ends of 4” x ¼” piece of
cardstock and stick in-between lining and box for handle:

Red White card set

Hi All!

It's me Priya again... With another inspiration for the current challenge... This time I have made a fancy fold side stepper card with a matching gift card holder...
Here it is:

I loved the red dotted paper of DCWV's Dots Stripes & Plaid Paper Stack.. And you can never be wrong with red and white color combo...
Now have a closer look at the card...

Dies, punches and scoreboard really makes a crafter's life easier... I have used Matha Stewart's Scoreboard to fold the card stock into a side stepper card... To add elegance to the card, Cheery Lynn Fanciful FlourishMS Monarch ButterflyMS butterfliesDoily Lace is a perfect choice..

Now have a look at the gift card holder...

I have made this scalloped circle holder using Spellbinder's Scalloped Circle dies and Spellbinder's Circle dies.. Just make a sandwich of dies and paper, and run it through Bigshot... tada! b'ful shapes are ready to use!

and this is how the gift card holder will open... tied the 2 circles using a brad to make them slide on each other.. isn't it cool?

Most of the products I have used here is available at Crafter's Corner & Shalini is offering some really fantastic discounts on the Martha Stewart & Ek Success Punches...Make sure you check them out & place your orders before they are out of stock :)

Have a happy craft day ahead!

Dies to die for

Hello Friends ,
Today I am up with a very special card made on order .
This one has beautiful use of dies . I have this habit of never buying stuff which I don't require. I really like making the best out of my supplies rather buying and making a collection . The money which I splurge upon my supplies is hard earned and made of sleepless nights .
Let move onto the card -
I have used Layered Elegant Swirl  die to make a fan . There is a special sale going on our site .
Can you see beautiful fanciful flourish on the card ? It is available at our store .  Right beside the Elegant flourish is the most amazing die ever made by my God  ' Tim Holtz '  The sewing room
I simply love this die .. when I work on the mannequin I remember my childhood days when I use to dress up my doll .
It has the perfect buttons and pegs .
Right behind my favorite die is Labels 8 { offer is going on our spellbinder dies } . This is the most versatile die , perfect for making my frames .
Now I need full attention ... Can you see the word Cherish .. Its heat embossed !! Yes I tried Heat Embossing for the first time . I used Ranger Black Embossing powder and Heat gun by Ranger which works on Indian Voltage .Voila !! I am trying to learn Heat embossing , I am sure it will be a great addition to my vintage world .
The stamp used to make the elegant border is Bo bunny's Gabreille .
The flowers are made by Beautiful Ribbon1  .
Other supplies are Vintage photo Distress inks and Tonic Trimmer .
Hope you all will leave some love .
Hugs
Mallika

Blue Mulberry rose &  Leaves-( Crafter's Corner)
Ribbon -Stash

And now for the Tutorial for the box ...Its really a very simple & easy to make box tutorial ...And this is so perfect for holding small note-cards ,tags ,chocolates & as it is in  the Indian tradition even some cash for all occasions....So firstly let me get to the supplies you will require for this :-

So as you can see the basic supplies that yu will need is some atleast some 12 * 12 inch cardstocks of any color , Paper Trimmer (Fiskars) ,Scoring  Board (Martha Stewart)  Border Punch (Martha Stewart Doily Punch) ,Ink for Stamping (Memento Tuxedo Black),Distress inks (Ranger) Blending tool  ,Good pair of scissors ,Double sided tape ,Some strong adhesive .

And now here goes the tute for it :-

Step 1 : For the Base Box : Start with a 7 1/2 inch * 6 inch piece of CS.

Step 2 :Score at 1 inch on all four sides of this CS.

Step 3 : With a pair of scissors put cuts on all four sides at the 1 inch mark as shown in the picture below :

Step 4 :Fold on all the four sides where you have cut out the tabs at the 1 inch :

Step 5 :Glue all the four corners together using double sided tape or an strong adhesive :

Now for the lid of the box :

Step 1 :Take a 9 1/2 inch * 6 inch piece of CS & score at 41/4 inch & 51.4 inch.

Step 2 :Fold the scored ends using your scoring tool & the lid will look something like this :

Step 3 ;now stick the box to the base of the lid  keeping it in centre as shown in the picture below :

Now the measurements of the Band which goes over this box :-

Step 1 : You will need 11 1/4 inch CS by 2 inches &  you have to score at 1 inch ,5 1/2 inch ,6 1/2 inch ,10 3.4 inch & 11 inch & glue it.

Step 2 : After you glue the two ends of this CS ,it forms a perfect band which will go over the box easily ,but  before you stick the 2 ends of the band ,it would be better if you embellish it with pattern paper of your choice :

Now here's a look of the finished box with its band removed ...Its a perfect size for the card I have made which nestles into it :-

As you can see I have embellished my box using punched laces ,pattern papers & few other thing of my choice !!...You can create these boxes for any theme you want & these could make lovely gifts for your near & dear ones especially for the upcoming Christmas season as well!...Hope you all like the tutorial & if you have any doubts..Do leave me a comment & I will try & get back to you as soon as possible.

Most of the products I have used here is available at Crafter's Corner & Shalini is offering some really fantastic discounts on the Martha Stewart & Ek Success Punches...Make sure you check them out & place your orders before they are out of stock :)
